It is with sincere gratitude that we announce the retirement of John Hannum from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Delaware County. After 17 years of dedicated service, we can’t express how much we value his dedication to and passion for our 4-H and Extension Programs here in Delaware County.
John has been leading the 4-H program as Team Leader with administrative management of 4-H Camp Shankitunk and 4-H programs related to animals. As team leader, John could always be spotted quietly in the background overseeing countless 4-H events, from standing ringside at each animal show during the county fair, taking bets on the 8th during the golf tournament, racing plastic ducks down third brook, avidly reviewing photos of fish caught that day by the campers, watching rocket launches from the front porch, checking the swimming pool, chaperoning youth at the NYS fair, setting up and breaking down events, and more!
In addition, John has been a tireless steward, caretaker, and advocate for 4-H Camp Shankitunk. John has overseen or had a direct hand in making countless facility repairs and improvements. He has ensured that thousands of campers, staff, and their families have had summer experiences that they’ll treasure for the rest of their lives. John’s contributions to camp will be cherished.
John’s hard work, commitment, and dedication to Cornell Cooperative Extension with his leadership of 4-H and Camp will be greatly missed, as will his level-headed insight, metaphors, words of wisdom, and of course, his animal stories.
On behalf of everyone at CCE and 4-H Camp Shankitunk, we would like to express our immense gratitude for John’s service and wish him the absolute best that retirement has to offer!
