#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. It is celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and other widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

In recent years your generosity has helped us successfully build a Gaga Pit & Traverse Wall at 4-H Camp Shankitunk. Both are much loved by the campers and sure to last for years to come.

This year we would love your support installing water bottle filling stations at camp!

What is a Water Bottle Filling Station?  A water bottle filling station functions like a traditional water fountain where youth can stop and grab a drink to stay hydrated throughout the hot summer days of camp. It also contains a feature where campers can fill their water bottle when there is no sink or only a small sink accessible to them.

Why Water Bottle Filling Stations? This project will support our efforts in making camp more earth friendly and sustainable. We've been pushing to eliminate one use plastics from camp in recent years and one of the biggest offenders are disposable plastic cups.  Hydration is a huge part of health. We want campers to be hydrated, but don't like the bags of plastic cups that go into the dumpster, especially on registration and extremely hot days. We want to encourage our campers to take care of themselves by making access to cold water easy around camp. These stations are designed with refrigeration units so the water is cold which will encourage kids to drink more.  Our goal is three machines (One at the Nurse's station, one in the Science Center, and one at the dining hall). This will cost approximately $8,000 but if we work together, we can do it! Some other water bottle filling station benefits include:

  • Green Ticker™ will inform us of the number of 20 oz. plastic water bottles saved from waste.
  • Energy Efficient
  • Refrigeration option can easily be powered off when not needed
  • Touchless/Sanitary Operation
  • Easy Maintenance
  • They dispense water three times faster than a standard drinking fountain

We hope will consider making a donation to camp on #GivingTuesday to help us bring these great resources to our Campers.

Every contribution counts!
