#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. It is celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and other widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
This year #GivingTuesday will be celebrated on December 1, 2020.
In recent years your generosity has helped us successfully build the Gaga Pit and Traverse Wall as well as install water bottle filling stations (scheduled for spring 2021) at 4-H Camp Shankitunk. These additions are much utilized by the campers and are sure to last for years to come.
This year, we are asking for your support in a new way. We are launching a #GivingTuesday campaign and asking our staff, camper families, alumni, and community to make a donation in the amount of $20.20 to help us close and possibly even eliminate the deficit that camp is facing for the year.
While we believe the decision not to operate camp this summer due to Covid-19 was the right thing to do; it had significant financial implications on our program which is facing a deficit of approximately $10,002 for the year. Please know that we will get through this together and come back strong in 2021!
We wish to express our sincerest gratitude to all of those who supported our program this summer by donating their fees to camp during these uncertain times. We have worked hard this summer to reduce expenses, leverage grant-funding to offer alternative programming through Camp in the Box and make much needed improvements at camp. We are proud of the work we accomplished this year and wish everyone good health in the coming year. Thank you for your consideration of becoming a Shankitunk Superhero by joining together with us on #GivingTuesday.
$20.20 is a suggestion; a donation in any amount would be welcomed and greatly appreciated.
P.S. This year we all have an opportunity to take advantage of Section 2204 of the new Charitable Giving Incentive which creates a new above-the-line deduction (universal or non-itemizer deduction that applies to all taxpayers) for total charitable contributions of up to $300. The incentive applies to cash contributions made in 2020 and can be claimed on tax forms next year. The law also lifts the existing cap on annual contributions for those who itemize, raising it from 60 percent of adjusted gross income to 100 percent.
